It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything due to general business. However, things are a bit quieter now since finishing 6 months of VFX on Nickleodeon’s House Of Anubis, so I’m doing a bit of a catching up.

This is a title sequence I created last year for The Case which was a BBC1 daytime show.

Some shots from an early morning trip with a brief of ‘abstract architectural Manchester’. Earlier on the light was quite flat but by about 8.30 the clouds had cleared and the sunshine was bringing some really strong contrasts making life a bit more enjoyable. These are some of the results.

While I’m on the subject of nice animation, this is another that I was reminded of whilst watching Thursday below. It’s a Flash animated masterpiece by Ilias Sounas from a few years ago but still looks phenomenal. I lost so much time watching this when I first discovered it. Stunning.

This is the first time I’ve posted something that isn’t my own work but I couldn’t help falling in love with this amazing piece of animation by Matthias Hoegg.

It’s a fairly simple story set in a geometrical metropolis with some deft transitions and wonderful observations. Great stuff.

A few snaps from the deep Winter freeze.

Just updated my VFX & Motion Showreel…

I’ve been so keen to get this online as it’s a piece of work I’m extremely proud of. It’s the animated title sequence from the Children’s BBC show Combat Kids which aired on Monday 22nd November 2010. It was about 6 weeks work altogether. This included concept & storyboarding, branding, artwork and animation. The artwork was created initially in Illustrator, processed in Photoshop and finally animated in After Effects. The project continued into marketing with the design & creation of the accompanying press pack, which I’ll post separately later. It was a hugely enjoyable project to work on and was made even more so by producer/director Paul Wilmshurst, who was supportive and encouraging throughout. It’s particularly satisfying to work on a project from beginning to end and produce something that is so successful across all media.

This is a short sequence I put together in support of a pitch document for a new TV drama. I can’t give too many details out about it as it may still go to production.

Using a little Sony HD hand held, I went out and shot some textures and mixed them up with some interesting particle renders that I created in After Effects.

A few stock photos from my image library that I think are rather nice. I took them a little while ago over at Birkenhead docks. On a bright day it’s a great place to be with your camera.
